Canada's Space Program and Your Future

Featuring scientists, engineers, and trades people, this video entices high school and primary school students to consider careers in Canada's space program.

Deliverables

English and French HD Videos, DVD, Web Content.

Challenge

Far too many young people believe that Canada’s space program is only about astronauts and rocket scientists. CSA determined the need to position Canada's space industry as very diverse, offering career opportunities for young people in skilled trades as well as in scientific and technical positions.

Strategies

Develop a high-energy video for primary and high school students using real people in a variety of roles, to entice young people to consider careers in Canada’s space industry. While stressing that excellence is expected, dispel myths that the Canadian space program is an exclusive place for only the absolutely best and brightest minds.

Tools

French and English videos that take a high-energy look at a number of people who have made careers out of space, capturing their personalities as well as full descriptions of the kinds of things they do. HyperActive carefully selected a variety of technical, scientific, and other jobs, and added continuity and perspective provided by Canadian astronauts Julie Payette and Chris Hadfield.

Results

The videos have been an extraordinary success, far exceeding the client’s expectations. In addition to distribution to high school students and undergrads in colleges and universities, the video is a big hit with senior primary school teachers, who are interested in having Grade 6, 7, and 8 children think about careers in space.
